Amarr to Enhance Production of Wood Carriage House Doors

WINSTON-SALEM – Amarr, one of the world’s leading designers, manufacturers and distributors of garage doors and door access systems, will convert the production of wood carriage house doors from Amarr’s own facility in Monterrey, Mexico to  U.S.-based Carriage House Door Company.  The Monterrey plant will cease production in September 2008 but the Amarr Monterrey distribution center will continue to operate.

Carriage House Door Company, which has made wood garage doors for 35 years, will manufacture all of the existing wood door collections offered by Amarr – including Biltmore™ For Your Home, Bob Timberlake®, and Amarr by Design – and will offer a number of additional custom door designs.  Carriage House Door will begin shipping the domestically made doors to Amarr dealers in August 2008 and will provide faster delivery than what Amarr previously offered.  No changes are being made at Amarr’s steel door production facilities.

“The Amarr doors manufactured by Carriage House Door have tremendous craftsmanship and will be readily available from two manufacturing plants, one in Sacramento, California and one in Old Fort near Asheville, North Carolina,” Vickie Lents, Amarr’s residential category director, said.  “In addition to product and service improvements, we’re proud to support Carriage House Door in the creation of more manufacturing jobs here in the United States.”

“We’re thrilled with the opportunity to expand our company through the relationship with Amarr,” Gary Singley, founder of Carriage House Door Company, said.  “We anticipate that the growth of our company and possible job increase at both our California and North Carolina manufacturing facilities will have a positive effect on the local economies in both areas.”

Lents said that Amarr will offer more wood options under the new production arrangement, including Sapele mahogany, Douglas fir and Spanish cedar to name just a few.  Amarr wood doors manufactured by Carriage House Door will be made using wood-on-wood construction with polystyrene insulation and will operate using standard garage door openers.

“Carriage House Door Company is widely known for its high quality wood garage doors and excellent service,” Lents added.  “Amarr wanted to work with a manufacturer who truly knows wood and wood garage doors.  We have found that in Carriage House Door and believe this company is a perfect fit with Amarr’s philosophy of durable, high quality products with superior service.”

In addition to new wood choices, Amarr wood doors manufactured by Carriage House Door come with true divided glass windows and overlay trim edge options, both of which are marks of true wood craftsmanship.  The doors also have been wind load tested and certified for required wind load areas.
