Centennial Subaru – Las Vegas, NV

While Las Vegas is most famously known as the “entertainment capital of the world”, the major resort destination also has a reputation for long and extremely hot summers.

From June through September, average temperatures in Las Vegas typically reach close to 100 degrees Fahrenheit. For at least ten days annually, high temperatures can hit 110 degrees Fahrenheit or higher. Such temperature extremes can take their toll on anyone spending time outdoors, even for short time periods.

For Las Vegas car shoppers, along with the bulk of new car inventories sitting exposed to the scorching sun and elements, searching for a new vehicle on a dealership lot during the hot summer months is not a pleasant experience.

A welcome benefit to Las Vegas car shoppers is to conduct any part of the car shopping and buying experience in a sheltered or a cool, climate-controlled indoor environment.

Solutions for high-temperature extremes

Centennial Subaru, which opened in the fall of 2022, is one of the largest Subaru dealerships in the U.S. and the top Subaru dealership in Las Vegas.

Both the dealership's architect and builder took the area's high-temperature extremes into account when considering how and where customers would shop for a vehicle and ultimately pick up their new purchase.

Located at the corner of Centennial Center Boulevard and the U.S. Highway 95 ramp in northwest Las Vegas, the three-story 132,000- square-foot Centennial Subaru is a state-of-theart dealership that encompasses more than five acres property-wide.

The dealership’s first-floor vehicle showroom is free-flowing, ultra-modern in design, and even features outdoor-themed murals and petfriendly customer lounges. The second floor houses the dealership’s parts department and also features a 133-stall vehicle display area where customers can view and inspect vehicles in a shaded area while sheltered from the sun and elements.

On both the second and third levels, select Subaru vehicles are showcased in multiple illuminated display “windows” that frame the vehicles much like fine pieces of art that are visible to motorists driving by the dealership.

Ensuring an enjoyable delivery experience

When the time arrives to pick up their freshly prepped Subaru, customers meet with the dealership’s sales and finance staff in an airconditioned new vehicle delivery bay area on the ground level that can accommodate up to three cars at a time.

The vehicle delivery bays face the busy Centennial Center Boulevard and are easily visible across the dealership’s inventory lot.

Making Centennial Subaru’s vehicle delivery bays stand out from an architectural perspective are three Amarr® 3582 MultiView Aluminum Doors. Each door measures 10' high x 12'2" wide with 3" rollers and a 3" tapered reverse angle 54" high lift trackset, duplex springs (rated for 100,000 cycles), ClearView Aluminum Strut System, clear anodize aluminum finish and 1/2" clear insulated tempered glass.

Each of the Amarr MultiView door sections feature a horizontal rail that divides each section into two panes of door-length glass for a sleek, modern look.

The high lift door tracks in the vehicle delivery bay area disappear into the drop ceiling, and when the doors are fully opened, they too disappear into the ceiling. All three doors are motorized via LiftMaster J501L5 jackshaft openers. The dealership estimates that its Amarr MultiView doors handle 15 to 20 cycles per day.

Appearance and thermal qualities key

Richard Youngblood, principal at Youngblood Architecture and who specializes in auto dealerships, managed Centennial Subaru’s design project.

“Being highly visible on the front of the dealership, the vehicle delivery bay doors are very important from an architectural 3 perspective,” noted Youngblood, who spec’d the Amarr doors based on their appearance as well as their thermal qualities. “Visible to a large volume of drive-by traffic on a busy road, the doors make for a very sharp overall presentation and integrate well with the dealership’s ultra-modern design.”

Youngblood further explained that his firm specifies doors based on their planned use, where the doors will be located as well as the overall look of a structure.

"We needed a high-quality sectional door that not only looks great but possesses excellent thermal qualities including dependable weather seals and air infiltration performance. Amarr's doors fit all those requirements," Youngblood commented. “We also like the fact that Amarr’s website is tremendously useful and easy to search.”

Crawford Door Sales of Nevada was instrumental in handling the installation of Centennial Subaru’s Amarr MultiView doors.

According to the dealer/installer's General Manager Chris Barton, his company has had a very close and long-term relationship with Centennial Subaru's contractor Boyd Martin Construction and has provided doors and installation work for dozens of auto dealerships and many other types of projects built by them. Barton also remarked that the installation of the dealership's Amarr MultiView doors ran very smoothly from start to finish.

Shared reputations for quality products

“The location of the three Amarr MultiView vehicle delivery bay doors on Centennial Subaru’s front elevation provides them a high degree of visibility on what is a very busy traffic thoroughfare,” pointed out Mark Johnson, FAIA, Architectural Sales Manager, Amarr who mirrored Youngblood’s perspectives. “And because the doors are located directly below the dealership’s vehicle display windows, that makes them stand out even more as opposed to being located on the sides or rear of the dealership where they wouldn’t be nearly as noticeable.”

Johnson added that Amarr’s MultiView doors play a key role in the Subaru customer’s buying experience and how the very clean and upscale vehicle delivery bay area is designed.

Corporate Subaru's interior design requirements are the basis for why Amarr’s MultiView doors disappear into the vehicle delivery bay's drop ceiling and interstitial space above the ceiling. This approach helps to provide a more finished, clean look to the vehicle delivery bay space when the doors are fully elevated.

“The Amarr doors not only make a strong first impression on customers during vehicle delivery but also a very positive last impression about “The dealership’s vehicle delivery bay space is also the perfect setting to showcase both companies’ shared reputations (Subaru and Amarr) for building and selling high-quality products.”

"The entire staff at Centennial Subaru is pleased with how the vehicle delivery bay area turned out, which is located right next to four glassenclosed finance offices,” remarked Leigh Morehouse, formerly with Centennial Subaru and who has since transferred to her parent company’s Lexus of Las Vegas dealership. “When customers are finalizing their paperwork in the offices, they can easily view their new vehicle. Serving also as a backdrop, the Amarr doors contribute to an overall great atmosphere for framing car delivery activity.”

“It’s nice to deliver cars to customers
inside where it’s cool and Amarr’s
doors play an integral role in helping
to round out the dealership’s overall
customer buying experience on
a very positive note.”

and now with Lexus of Las Vegas)

While making a contrast to sheltered outdoor vehicle delivery areas, Morehouse further shared, “The Amarr doors are a big deal due to how hot it gets outside. It's nice to deliver cars to customers inside where it’s cool and Amarr’s doors play an integral role in helping to round out the dealership’s overall customer buying experience on a very positive note.”
