Haron Motor Sales – Fresno, CA
In 1945 at the end of World War II, servicemen and women returning to the U.S. were anxious to get on with their lives. That included starting families as well as buying homes and cars. At the time, Charles Haron, Sr. saw an opportunity to meet the needs of area drivers in Fresno, Calif. when he opened his auto service station that would eventually sell cars as Haron Motor Sales.
Now, more than 70 years later, the local business has grown into one of the area’s premier dealerships serving a region that includes Bakersfield, Visalia, Tulare, Modesto, and Madera.
The dealership’s recently renovated Jaguar and Land Rover facility still stands in its original 2.5-acre location and is now managed by the third-generation of the family business started more than seven decades ago.
Making room for Jaguar, Land Rover, and new doors
“To grow our Jaguar and Land Rover brands, our old facility needed a complete overhaul,” said Randy Haron, Owner, Haron Motor Sales. “We simply needed much more capacity.”
Haron Motor Sales’ service operation grew from eight to 24 bays which tripled the dealership’s service capacity. Overall, the dealership quadrupled the size of its old footprint which now stands at 43,500 square feet with room enough to stock up to 400 vehicles.
Among the dealership’s key architectural concerns was how to approach the access doors used for its service bays and new car delivery center.
The project’s architect originally spec’d traditional style aluminum sectional doors. Because they didn’t meet the look and functionality of what Haron Motor Sales wanted, the dealership’s owner found a better solution.
MultiView horizontal design drew attention
While viewing the Amarr website, Haron discovered the model 3582 MultiView Aluminum Door that was eventually chosen for the remodeled dealership. Haron also liked the door’s strong horizontal elements for added security as well as how it would complement his upgraded dealership’s exterior design features.
James Zografos, Vice President at Allied Dock Products, Inc., was instrumental in working with Haron on his door selection as well as the door installations.
“Our former facility had old-style service doors,” Haron explained. “Our new Amarr doors are not even in the same ballpark regarding quality and function. They’re the right doors with the right look and are really sharp.”
Haron further pointed out that he wanted doors that are beautiful and allow people walking by to easily see what’s in the dealership’s showroom. He sees this as a significant benefit over a traditional sectional door.
And once inside, customers can easily see outside as well. “It’s important for customers in our new car delivery center to have high visibility looking in and out as they’re instructed on how to operate their new vehicle’s operation and technology features,” Haron said.
He further added, “The Amarr doors on our service operation really show off the brand new shop with its beautiful flooring. Customers shopping for cars can easily see our service operation and what we have to offer which is a great benefit as well.”
MultiView doors serve different purposes
Haron Motor Sales’ new car delivery center features two Amarr 3582 MultiView Aluminum Doors (10’ feet high x 12’2” wide using 2” rollers and high lift track) with clear anodize aluminum finish and 1/4” clear acrylic plexiglass for added security.
The dealership’s service operation uses two Amarr 3582 MultiView Aluminum Doors (one 12’ feet high x 16’2” wide using 2” rollers and high lift track and the other 12’ feet high x 20’2” wide; 3” rollers and high lift track), both with clear anodize aluminum finish and 1/4” clear tempered glass.
Each of the MultiView door sections features a 2”-thick ClearView aluminum horizontal mullion that divides separate panes above and below for the full length of the door section. This allows for individual sections up to 8’ wide without a vertical mullion in between.
From an architectural perspective, this feature enables strong, European-style undivided horizontal lines at up to eight feet before they encounter a vertical mullion, depending on a door’s width.
The doors’ strong horizontal lines and anodize aluminum finish also complement other horizontal architectural exterior features used on the dealership, such as metal ribbed channel panels and Galvalume horizontal cladding.
The high lift door tracks in the delivery center disappear into the drop ceiling and when the doors are raised, they disappear into the ceiling as well. All doors are motorized via LiftMaster H Model Hoist Operators with reversing photo eyes. To enhance the area’s aesthetics, the operators in the delivery center are concealed.
Haron Motor Sales’ Amarr MultiView Aluminum Doors serve a purpose that goes well beyond providing vehicles access in and out of the dealership. They also help market new autos to prospective buyers and provide an architectural element that complements and is integrated into the dealership’s overall design.
