A total of 20 Amarr® Aluminum Full View 2" Doors: (12) 18'2" wide x 8' high, (3) 16'1" wide x 10' high, (2) 15'2" wide x 9' high, (1) 11'8" wide x 10' high, (1) 10'7" wide x 6'9" high and (1) 14'2" wide x 11'9" high with (13) doors high lift and (7) doors vertical lift all using a combination of 2" and 3" track depending on door weight. All the doors feature springs rated for 100,000 cycles, ½" Greylite tempered insulated glass, as well as a factory-applied, anodize black finish.

Chicken N Pickle – San Antonio, Texas
For anyone who’s not familiar with pickleball, they’ll quickly experience what the sport’s all about when they visit any Chicken N Pickle (CNP) venue.
A hybrid of tennis, badminton, and table tennis (ping pong), pickleball is played on a court half the size of a tennis court with solid paddles and a ball similar to a Wiffle ball.
Pickleball, of course, is the primary focus at each of CNP’s six venues located in four states. All CNP’s unique indoor/outdoor entertainment complexes also contain a casual, chef-driven restaurant and a sports bar.
CNP’s San Antonio, Texas venue (one of the company’s earliest locations) features 11 pickleball courts (6 indoor/5 outdoor) along with two bocce ball and four shuffleboard courts, entertainment space, outdoor lawn games, and a game room with ping pong and TV screens.
Because the CNP venues are a hub of activity, the overarching concept behind CNP’s architectural design is to provide patrons and staff maximized visual access to everything going on around the complex.
For CNP San Antonio, that meant integrating a variety of open view design elements which includes 20 Amarr® 3552 Aluminum Full View 2" Doors.
“The doors provide CNP patrons and staff alike a high degree of visibility to outdoor areas including the pickleball courts, large outdoor areas for parties, as well as sightlines to the venue's outdoor stage,” said Mark Johnson, FAIA, Architectural Sales Manager, Amarr.
He further pointed out that the Amarr doors are well-integrated components that make a significant contribution to CNP’s architectural design.
The doors include eight five-panel high openings in the restaurant/sports bar and other areas. 12 shorter four-panel doors are installed within counter-height openings at CNP’s freestanding pickleball building. Concrete counters at six openings provide ample space for patrons to enjoy food and drink while sitting on stools or standing. When the doors are closed, each opening is fully sealed for maximum energy savings.

Doors increase natural light
According to Kellen Mumm, CNP’s Vice President of Business Development, the aluminum full view doors at his company’s San Antonio venue were part of a very special and intricate project.
“We found that the doors met all of our expectations and the installation process ran very smoothly,” Mumm said. “We have a lot of outdoor space that is integrated among a very industrial chic steel and brick design. The Amarr doors help to reinforce that look while functionally bringing in a lot of natural light.” The venue also includes translucent clerestory panels above the Amarr doors in the restaurant/sports bar areas to let in even more natural light.
Mumm stressed that the full view doors encourage activity flow from inside to out. “We’re big on keeping the entire property active all day long, so being able to view activity from inside out and vice versa is a major part of the CNP experience. We’re all about having fun and the doors help to translate that from a wide variety of vantage points.”

Door seals help retain conditioned air
While the Amarr doors help to let in a considerable amount of natural light and, when open, provide a nice flow of cross-ventilation, they’re also designed to hold up to a significant amount of daily use. CNP staff operates each door using a chain lift and all the doors’ springs are rated for 100,000 cycles.
And because CNP San Antonio’s indoor spaces are climate controlled, the California Title 24 Building Energy Efficiency-tested Amarr 3552 doors feature special seals between each panel that inhibit air infiltration. All the door seals, including those on the perimeter, help to reduce the venue’s summer season cooling load. On average, San Antonio experiences 18 days a year with 100-plus degree temperatures. Each door also contains ½" Greylite tempered insulated glass.
“The Amarr doors play an important role in helping to keep the venue cool from an R-value standpoint,” Mumm emphasized. “The doors’ insulated glass, along with panel and perimeter seals, all factor in during our three to four months of annual high-temperature extremes when the doors and a special cladding on our venue’s exterior work together to help retain our conditioned air.”
Due to support beams above the door openings on either side of the courts, “the Amarr door tracks pitch at an angle to clear the beam and also avoid ductwork in the ceiling,” Johnson explained. “All the calculations had to be just right. The dealer installer ensured that the door installations were all uniform and accomplished them in a timely manner so that CNP could open its San Antonio venue as planned.”
Johnson added, “Whether full opening or counter height, Amarr’s aluminum full view doors are very versatile for any design need. The doors are right at home at a variety of applications, including those found at Chicken N Pickle San Antonio.”
